11/9/2009 · On November 9, 2009, President Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13518 establishing the “ Veterans Employment Initiative” to boost employment of military veterans , especially from Iraq and Afghanistan, in the federal government. From 2009 through 2013, based on the most current data from the Office of Personnel Management, there was a 7 percent increase in the number of veterans .
